The off-white background, seen through the screen, is interesting. There’s some directorial uncertainty here. (No reason in the world to blame them for that, especially at this stage.) Do we put the proprietors in with their competitors? Directorial uncertainty carries the day, as they kind of do, and sort of don’t.

I’m almost certainly assuming or projecting, but as I look at these faces and the activity in which they’re engaged, I find that these guys look like scoundrels. It’s Roland Barthes, part II (see The Rhetoric of the Image, [1964], as well as Athlete with Wand, q.v.)! We do too judge a book by its cover, and in all sorts of unconsidered and therefore complicated, complicating ways.
