Hair Raising Hare

Film Review by Dean Duncan May 31, 2015

There’s Bugs, being watched on a TV-like apparatus (it’s 1946), by a personage that looks and sounds like Peter Lorre.

That mechanical female rabbit! She, or it, are very ETA Hoffmann. The “is there a doctor in the house?” joke is so Tex Avery that it has to be an homage. The mirror gag, in which the frightened reflection of the monster runs away, is very funny. Tex could have done that one too.

Perhaps the kids are being reassured by this non-lethal monster. Bugs does his nails this time, instead of his hair (cf. Water, Water Every Hare). “…interesting lives!”  The painting/eye pokes joke is also pretty Avery-like.
