Hollywood Steps Out

Film Review by Dean Duncan Jul 13, 2015

On the other hand. Here’s more toadying, set at Ciro’s. That Greta Garbo is really ugly! The big/hot foot joke is really funny. Leopold Stokowski does the cha cha cha. Are they rotoscoping Sally Rand? Her dance is very nicely executed. The ogling that goes on in response is not so well executed. Tex Avery’s wolves at least have some humanity to them, strange as it is to say it. Come on, cartoonists! The five deadpan guys are cool. A Guy Kibee voice asks them if they’re having a good time. Again, these references, these referents have mostly passed us by. The fact of them though, and even more the film’s—the culture’s?—attitude toward them is quite fascinating, and really rich.
