Hospital

Film Review by Dean Duncan Mar 26, 2015

Sorry, but I’m saying it again. Fred Wiseman! Kieslowski and his crew are flying on the wall of an institution, not quite judging, but certainly giving us enough data to make a judgment for ourselves. Or, giving us enough data to confirm our preconceived suspicions. Does this portrait testify of or add up to an inert Communist system? It might, just. There are a few ghosts in the machine, though.

The hours idea, by which the film is structured, is quite good. The film itself, however, is probably too short to work as well as it might have, had it extended itself just a little bit further. No problem. Good films, whether great filmmakers made them or not, can sustain their little errors and missteps.
