Deduce, You Say!

Film Review by Dean Duncan May 31, 2015

The modern backgrounds are very nice, as are the ridiculously exaggerated English facial types. Here’s a very effective lampoon of Sherlock Holmes-type detective stories. There are lots of good laughs. (“Name?” “Shropshire Slasher.” “Occupation?” “Shropshire Slasher.”) It demonstrates an important thing about genres, which is that when you view sympathetically the seemingly identical can still be plenty different enough.

Generic, and trans-generic: Deduce, You Say! is also very Dripalong Daffy, especially in its Daffy/Porky relationship. The bluster of the one is offset by the other’s quiet efficiency. As fun as it is satisfying, or vice versa. More, please.
