Monkey Business (1971)

Film Review by Dean Duncan Jul 15, 2015

This is actually precisely how the medium/media of puppetry works, and maybe even narrative itself. You’ve got the world, or your imagination. And you’ve got all of these near-infinite options available for telling the stories that come from those two profound places. (Wegman’s) Monkey Business reduces Aristotle’s medium and matter and mode—see the second paragraph of Poetics—to some pretty bare bones, such that the entire impulse starts to look kind of crazy. But then, when you think about it, it’s not. Worlds!
