Three Blind Mousketeers

Film Review by Dean Duncan Jul 6, 2015

Not the Mickey Mouse Club yet, but rather Disney continuing to work through and appropriate the world’s folk and fairy literature. It was a good idea, and a good strategy: easily accessed, familiar to audiences, and yet not so familiar as to be a disadvantage. That is to say that we get a bit hazy about sources and details, such that the adaptor can take commercial and ideological liberties, if he wants.

This one is nicely painted, nicely decorated, and it has a few goodish gags. Its particular take on the familiar verse strikes me as being a bit dumb, though. Or maybe what’s silly is the strained repackaging of this tiny little tale, which may not actually sustain its multiple re-interpretations.
