We’ve got another sequel here, as the Tortoise and the Hare make their way from the race course to the boxing ring. We’ve got lots of characters from other cartoons filling out the crowd here, establishing a whole community, or a whole mess of franchising. This might have been an interesting idea to explore (and I guess the eventual TV show, and certainly the comic books, did so). Max Hare is still an unattractive character, the which actually makes Toby less appealing, or interesting. The decks are stacked, at first in terms of the threatening antagonist, and then in the way that right inevitably prevails. It’s not interesting. Jenny Wren shows up with another inappropriate contribution, which is also kind of funny. There’s Practical Pig, ringing that bell. Love that round-the-ring Tex Avery noise.
